Meteor Crater

1 hour 15 minutes from wedding location

Over 50,000 years ago, a huge meteorite, approximately 150 feet wide and weighing several hundred thousand tons, impacted an area outside of Flagstaff, Arizona, with a force 150 times greater than an atomic bomb. The impact created a giant bowl-shaped cavity now called the Meteor Crater, which measures 550 feet deep and almost a mile wide.

Lava Tubes

45 minutes from wedding location

The lava cave was formed by molten rock that erupted from a volcanic vent. As the lava flowed from the vent, the outside hardened into a tube-like formation. Once the flow was done, the cave cooled and became a 3/4 mile-long tunnel. This 700,000-year-old formation remains a cool 35°-42° even in the summer, so bring warm clothes!
